PRESS RELEASE

The tramway returns to Syntagma.

Athens, 18 November 2020

The Management of STASY S.A. informs the citizens and visitors of Attica that as of Friday 20 November 2020 the operation of tramway routes from and to Syntagma that were discontinued in October 2018, starts again.
In September STASY installed a specific system of measurement for the deformations of the concrete slab covering the underground riverbed of Iliissos and conducted close controls over the closed section of the tramway route, between “Kasomouli” and “Vouliagmeni Avenue” stops.
The measurements and tests carried out for two months revealed no deformation in the concrete slab of Ilissos river as a result of the tramway passage, enabling us to safely deliver to the passengers travelling in Attica the Syntagma – Kasomouli section, as well as the intermediate stops in Zappeio, Vouliagmeni Avenue and Fix.
During the complete commercial operation the measurements will continue for four more months.
It is estimated that the restart of operation of the tramway routes from and to Syntagma will contribute significantly in the decongestion of the other transport means.
Also, the restart of operation of tramway routes in the section from “Batis” stop to Palaio Faliro up to the Peace and Friendship Stadium, which was discontinued in March 2020 because of the execution of works concerning the gentrification of the sea front, as part of which the shift of the tramway track is provided for, shall be expedited. These works are expected to be completed in late November. Then, the testing of the new track will follow, so that the tramway trains may be put into service again.
Please note that for the service of the passengers, an automatic vending machine, for issue of tickets and loading of cards with fare products for all urban transport means of Attica, operates at the terminal tramway stop of Syntagma at the intersection of Othonos str. and Amalias street.
